Game Overview
The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Mississippi State Bulldogs will square off in the inaugural Texas Kickoff Classic at Reliant Stadium. This Big 12/SEC showdown will take place on Saturday, August 31st at Reliant Stadium and will be part of an ongoing series of Labor Day Kickoff games at Reliant Stadium.
Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State rode a powerful offense to an 8-5 record in 2012, including a dominating Heart of Dallas Bowl win over Purdue. The Cowboys were in and out of the polls throughout the season, reaching as high as 18th in the AP Poll. Oklahoma State continued its tradition of offensive dominance, finishing the year 3rd in scoring offense and 4th in total offense despite rotating quarterbacks throughout the season.
Mississippi State
Mississippi State streaked to a 7-0 record, reaching 13th in the AP Poll before falling to then #1 and eventual national champion Alabama. The Bulldogs also finished the year 8-5, however four of their five losses were to teams that finished in the AP top 25 and three of those teams finished in the top 10. Head coach Dan Mullen has engineered a remarkable turnaround heading into his 5th season in Starkville and the Bulldogs are poised to build on last year’s success
