Houston is one of the nation’s top cities for people in their twenties, a new study by CreditDonkey.com shows.
The Petro Metro took the No. 9 slot, behind Austin at No. 1 and San Antonio at No. 5.
Among the things that sets Houston apart from cities less attractive to twentysomethings is its outdoor performance venues and active arts scene, the study said. Other factors, including rent prices, unemployment rate and population growth, weighed in.
“There must be something in the Texas water, because Houston is the third city from the Lone Star State on our list. Though unemployment is higher than Austin’s, the average rent is more than $100 cheaper in Houston – and the city is thriving,” writers at CreditDonkey.com said.
Last month, Forbes proclaimed Houston “America’s next great global city.” Forbes made the prediction in its article, “A Map of America’s Future: Where Growth Will Be Over the Next Decade,” a part of it’s “Reinventing America” series.
The notion that Forbes found Houston to be a future super city came as no surprise to those who already live here.
“Look where they’re doing business — all over the globe,” Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, said of Houston’s business community.
Mayor Annise Parker — the self-described No. 1 cheerleader for Houston — also “would argue that Houston is already a great global city.”
